Leadership through resilience and adaptability - Une Conversation avec Charles De Villaine (WG'15) ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Overcoming seemingly unsurmountable hurdles, fighting against discrimination, and pushing established
boundaries develop resilience and adaptability, two essential components of leadership. Charles de
Villaines will share how he became blind at age 18, adapted to this new life and turned his disability into
strength.
Charles is a Managing Director within the Macquarie Group and Heads Macquarie Capital’s Private
Credit team in France. Prior to joining Macquarie in 2020, Charles spent the first 12 years of his career
working in Leverage Finance for various European banks (RBS, HSBC, CM-CIC). Charles is also a board
member of Fondation Valentin Haüy, France’s oldest non-profit organization catering to the visually
impaired population.
Charles graduated from an MBA at Wharton in 2015 with a double major in Finance and Entrepreneurial
Management. While at Wharton, Charles was part of Wharton Venture Partners, a student-run VC
organization. Charles is also a graduate of HEC Paris and holds a Masters in Finance from Université Paris
Dauphine.
Charles is married and the father of two young children. During his free time, he is a keen semi-
marathon runner, an avid traveler and an extreme sport addict. He slalom waterskis, wakeboards and
snowboards. With the help of his HEC roommate, he drove a snowmobile during a 600 km expedition in
the Arctic Circle.
